100% Pure purity hydrating tonique review

Hey guys,

I accidentally purchased the wrong toner, the purity hydrating tonique that caters for acne care instead of the pure mint white tea tonique for combination to oily skin. I don’t have acne but I am prone to breakouts randomnly if I change up my skin routine and I have a reaction to the new product but if this is for acne care, I’m assuming it’d be gentle but effective in improving the skin’s condition in general.

RRP $34.95/118ml from Nourished Life

Shelf life 6 months after opening

The body of the spray is made out of glass, the nozzle plastic (not sure whether recycled plastic or fresh non biodegradable plastic), the packaging tube is cardboard and text is printed with biodegradable soy ink – what I like about 100% Pure’s products is the recyclable and reusable nature of their packaging.

It claims-

‘The 100% Pure Purity Hydrating Tonique is ideal for those with acne prone skin. It uses Lavender Hydrosol and Organic Aloe with a Hyaluronic Acid delivery system to help deeply purify by reducing excess oil and hydrate the skin. It also works to soothes redness and irritation and promote the healing of blemishes.’

Lavandula Angustifolia Aqua (Organic Lavender Hydrosol)*, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Organic Aloe Juice)*, Extracts of Calendula Officinalis (Calendula) Flower, Echinacea Purpurea (Echinacea), Hydrastis Canadensis (Goldenseal), Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Flower/Leaf/Stem and Lonicera Caprifolium Flower and Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle), Hyaluronic Acid

* Certified Organic

All the ingredients are natural with individual beneficial properties such as

  • Echinacea contains anti inflammatory properties, making it deal for effective treatment of skin problems. [Source]
  • Hydrastic Canadensis (goldenseal) has gained a reputation for being a herbal antibiotic and is a good antiseptic, making it ideal and effective for the treatment of acne. [Source]
  • Hyaluronic Acid has the ability to retain moisture without providing an excess of moisture as too much water can cause key components keeping the skin’s surface intact to break down. [Source]
  • Lonicera Japonica(Honeysuckle) is described as containing soothing properties however has been linked to slight controversy. Click here for more info.

Overall comments

The scent is definitely something not easy to get used to for someone who’s used to the lightly fragranced (artificially so) scent of makeup and such – it’s a very strong but natural scent. i think this is my first time using a product with tea tree in it, so it might have been that or it’s a combination of all the organic ingredients.

As an overall toning spray for oily/combination skin, this spray was too strong and drying for me but for spot treating pimples(like emerging pimples and non scarred/non scratched pimples), it works as I started to break out in a spot close to my eyebrow and I soaked a tissue with the tonique (by spraying the tonique in close proximity to the tissue) and placed it on the area for a few seconds, then went to bed and the next day it wasn’t as red or tender. I kept repeating this for another two days (after everytime I washed my face – I wash my face about an average of 3 times a day, once in the morning, second after getting rid of the day’s makeup and third before I go to sleep so the skin can breathe to its potential- so I only applied the tonique to the breakout area and used my normal daily moisturiser for the rest of my face) and the breakout appearance subsided.

Overall, it wasn’t a miraculous pimple/breakout eliminator as it wasn’t advertised as a blemish removal/healing product so I’m not salty about that. Since it’s acne care, it’s more of a long term overall healing and prevention product – however I can’t say much about the acne prevention/healing effectiveness as I don’t have acne but in terms of breakouts, it did calm them down. Also, I’ve ordered another toner online and want to try out blemish stickers so I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing this product any time soon.

*Note: this tonique/toner is drying without the presence of alcohol in it which both good and bad but as this is an acne care/breakout healing product – it’s ideal.

Thanks for reading – any advice/feedback is greatly appreciated!
