BATHE TO BASICS Michelia Alba lip balm review

Hey guys,

Today’s blogpost will be on another flavour of my favourite lip balms ever since 2016 so there may be a bit of a personal expectation for this lip balm to reach the standards of the jasmine wax one. From memory, they(Bathetobasics) also sold the michelia alba wax lipbalm alongside the jasmine wax one instore back in December 2016 when I was in Hong Kong for a short uni trip.

Now, Bathetobasics have refurbished their website and released the lipbalms online (as they weren’t listed online previously), allowing more access to the information of each product and ease of purchase. Read more here.

It’s packaged simply, exactly like the jasmine wax one but in a different shade of packaging/barrel: white, with the classic, straightforward ‘twist-base’ application method.

Shelf life after opening is 3 months as it is a natural product with no synthetic preservatives. For optimal storage, it’s best to keep the lip balm in a cool, dry place as you would with your skincare and makeup products as I’ve found that the lip balm tends to get a bit oily (in the natural-oily way) in warmer weather conditions.

Price: $58 HKD/ roughly $9 AUD

Ingredients (source)

CAMELLIA OLEIFERA (CAMELLIA) SEED OIL, ORYZA SATIVE (RICE) BRAN OIL, MICHELIA ALBA FLOWER WAX, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL, OLEA EUROPAEA (EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL), EUPHORBIA CERIFERA (CANDELILLA) WAX, PERSEA GRATISSIMA (AVOCADO) OIL, TRITIUM VULGARE (WHEAT GERM) OIL, TOCOPHEROL (VITAMIN E)

Overall comments

This lip balm applies without a sticky and suffocating layer feeling which occurs in most lipbalms as they contain synthetic wax that seals in moisture but don’t promote the healing of lips.

Whilst this lip balm is more moisturising than most common lipbalms, it’s not as moisturising as the other flavour this lipbalm comes in: Jasmine wax. However, that being said, Hydrated and smooth lips don’t just result in the use of one spectacular lip balm as dry and cracked lips stem from a variety of factors per individual.

Don’t forget that water is the miracle for most things!

Thanks for reading – let me know what you want reviewed next!
